With the help of dedicated volunteers, Mitzvah Garden KC provides healthy food for those less fortunate. We strive to create a sense of community in Kansas City. We have worked over 20 years to develop a sustainable and educational program for all ages. Come play in the dirt, meet new people, veggies and bees on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 12. p.m.
What we do
These are the key elements of the success and flow of our garden. The goal: get as much food to as many people as we can.
We do not use any toxic chemicals on our fruits and vegetables. Over the past 20+ years, Mitzvah Garden KC has used natural remedies for plants, and we believe that is the best way to provide nutritious food to pantries.
Although everyone and anyone is welcome to the garden, we strive to uphold Jewish values. We believe we must provide food for people who cannot afford it. We also believe tending to the land is one of the best ways to connect with the world around us.
Almost every volunteer that comes us to the garden claims it as their second home. At MGKC, we pride ourselves on being a family that truly cares about each other and the ground equally. New family members are always welcome.
One perk of this specific garden is the educational aspect. As a family-friendly facility, we understand the importance of children and adults to learn more about the soil we live on. There are plenty of specialists at the garden every Sunday to educate all ages on anything from fruit trees to compost tips.
