  • What do you grow?
We grow what food pantries need. This can vary year to year, but some of our favorites are onions, garlic, sweet potatoes, corn, eggplant, blackberries, apples, peaches, and cherries! Come to the garden and see something missing? Plant it with us!
  • I see a vegetable or fruit missing from the garden. Can I plant it?
Come to the garden and see something missing? Plant it with us! We always find ways to fit the most produce possible into the space we have.
  • Where does the food go?
We donate all of our harvest to local food pantries in need. Our partners include: New Hope Food Pantry, Jewish Family Services Food Pantries, Kosher Meals on Wheels, After the Harvest (who distributes to many local food access agencies), and SafeHome.
  • What if it is raining on a Sunday?
If it is drizzling or going to pass soon, the rain won't stop us. If it is lightning, thundering, and pouring rain, we stay home safe.
  • Do you work all year?
Yes! There is always something that can grow any time of the year in Kansas. In summer, we harvest fruits and veggies like blackberries, kale, cherries, onions, and garlic. In the winter, we harvest plants like pumpkins, apples, and squash.
  • Who will be at the garden when I get there?
We have dedicated and passionate volunteers from all over the KC area. From Ken, our amazing Garden Manager, to Brenda & David, a MGKC power couple, you will get to meet some amazing people who care will show you the ropes and have fun doing it!
  • Do I need to sign up to volunteer?
Nope! If it isn't a Jewish Holiday, we will be at the Garden on Sundays from 8am-12pm.
  • What should I wear/bring to the garden?
Bring sunscreen, a water bottle, a hat and sunglasses if preferred, and clothes to get dirty in. Wear close-toed shoes. Some volunteers will wear shorts and a t-shirt while others wear jeans and a long sleeve shirt. It is up to you!
  • Do I need to stay for all 4 hours?
Nope! Feel free to come and go anytime between 8am-12pm. Just put away your tools when you leave if you've finished your task.
