About mitzvah garden kc
Mitzvah Garden KC is a volunteer-supported, nonprofit garden (although, it is closer to a small farm at this point!) founded in 2000 that is dedicated to growing community one plant at a time while learning about the agricultural roots of the Jewish calendar. We welcome volunteers of all ages, faiths, cultures, and backgrounds. 100% of our harvests go to local food pantries to provide for those in need.
🌱Volunteers are ALWAYS welcome to come on Sundays from 8am-12pm, no sign ups necessary! Have any questions or concerns? DM or email us.
🌱We plant, harvest, and tend during all seasons of the year. We grow pumpkins, squash, grapes, apples, peaches, corn, sunflowers, garlic, onions, kale, okra, herbs, sweet potatoes, many kinds of tomatoes and sweet and hot peppers, and more! We also make sure that our pollinator friends have plants available for survival. Come to the garden and see something missing? Let's plant it together!
🌱Have a group like scouts, National Honor Society, community service club, campers, or an environmental science organization looking for a volunteer opportunity? The Garden is the perfect spot as there is always something to do! Contact us to learn more.

The garden humbly begins with ten 4' x 16' raised beds at Village Shalom built by Congregation Beth Torah's Mitzvah Day volunteers under the leadership of Ken Sonnenschein.
Collaboration with The Temple, Congregation B'nai Jehudah facilitated by Andrew Kaplan, Larry Lehman, Ken Sonnenschein, and Vicki Kulikov results in generous access to plot of unused land. The Mitzvah Garden grows from 640 square feet to 10,000 square feet.
Garden doubles in size to 20,000 square feet with construction of the orchard.
Mitzvah Garden KC produces over 10,000lbs of produce each year!
